  • My hours have been reduced. Is this legal? Minnesota

I am salaried at 42 hours a week, and we just received notice that our location will be closed at 5 instead of 6 each weekday. This means that Corporate has cut 5 hours of my time each week. I won't have all of the details until next week, but I am wondering if cutting my hours down to 37 is legal. Shouldn't I still be paid for at least 40 hours a week if I am on salary?
    Any input is appreciated. Thanks

Yes, they can reduce your hours. Your work schedule is determined entirely by your employer.

Salary is just a pay method. Whether you are exempt or non-exempt, your employer is free to reduce your compensation to whatever they see fit, as long as you make at least minimum wage (if you are a non-exempt employee) or $455/week if you are an exempt employee.
