  • Walking Robots Illinois

    I recently opened a new restaurant,its an upscale,casual restaurant thats been growing very profitably over the last 9 yrs,[none of this really has revelance to my question]We are required to "walk the circle[restaurant]" for our entire shift not pausing once to stand,sit,eat,etc,for a period of up to 7.5 hours.Is this practice legal? Are we entitled to a break? Or, are the laws still this mid-evil,and as inhumane as this seems?{I shold clarify, I,am not an owner of this establishment,but a server, that is very disturbed by this treatment of its employees}

    Il - absent a collective bargaining agree. that addresses meal periods, employees who are to work 7 1/2 continuous hrs. or more must be provided an unpaid meal period of at least 20 min. This meal period must be given no later than 5 hrs. after an employee begins work.

    No law requiring rest breaks.

    add info: If you don't get meal periods when required, you can put in a complaint with your state's DOL.

    Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around. Leo Buscaglia
