    Can a manager or employer legally make an employee pay the difference from their own pocket if the cash register is short? If it's not legal, can you please reference a statute number or legal document that I can use as proof?

    Under federal rules, the answer is "yes, with conditions". The webpointer below will take you to the federal rules.

    Florida is not my state. It has a reputation as a "just like federal" state (other then minimum wage), although I do not know as a fact that is true for your question.

      Fl. has no rules other than the federal except public employers may make wage deductions authorized by employees of state & local government. FSA code 112.171.
