  • Closing and Opening shifts, too close? Florida

My wife is scheduled to work a closing shift tonight (she will get out around 11:30 pm), and an opening shift tomorrow morning (she is required to be in at 6:30 am). Can her employer legally require her to return to work in such a short span? I would think that the minimum amount of time between 2 shifts would have to be 8 hours...

There is no minimum number of hours between shifts required by law. The only exceptions to this rule are industry-specific (truck drivers, airline pilots, etc.). It is legal to require an employee to close one night and open the next morning.
