can a employer deduct 1 hour for a lunch break if you do not take the full hour. in my line of work sometimes you dont have time to take a full hour sometimes we can only take a half hour sometimes we are so busy we take time to down a sandwhich and then back to work. i work for a car dealership in the service department and it can get pretty hectic.

    Simple answer, "No."

You must be paid for all hours worked. Any break of less than 20 minutes counts as work time and must be paid. If you are on, say, a 30 minute lunch break, but expected to answer the phones, that is not an unpaid break.
