    can your work place take vacation time/sick/safe time if you dont want them to? say you just want an unpaid day.... please help

    There are no laws against the employer paying you for your earned time, even if you did not request it.

    In some circumstances (see other threads on this issue) there are reasons that the employer may want or even require you to use PTO.

    Generally, i you are an exempt employee, your salary will be kept "whole" until you use up your PTO.

      The logic behind PTO (vacation) plans is that exists to cover when you are not at work. Your employer has no obligation to permit you to take unpaid leave (unless the leave is covered by FMLA). And even then your employer could require you to use available leave balances. Ultimately this matter will need to be addressed internally since no law prohibits it. What does company policy say?
