Thursday I was terminated out of nowhere for "destruction of company property". The day before I accidentally dropped a $7000 piece of equipment. I reported to my supervisor that the equipment was not working correctly. He verbally scolded me and I thought that was that. Later that day my lead man comes up to me and tells me I have to sign this paper and leave the property immediately
that I was terminated. In the past year I have seen other people destroy this piece of equipment with no action taken by the company now i all of a sudden get fired for dropping a piece of equipment. As far as i know it might not even be broken it wasen't looked at by an outside scervice tech. Up until now i have been a model employee, i have no writeups or absences. What can I do to keep my job?

In at-will employment you can be terminated at any time for any reason except a reason prohibited by law (ie age, religion, gender) or unless you have a bona fide employment contract or CBA to the contrary. Your employer did nothing wrong/illegal.

All employees do not have to be treated the same as long as you aren't discriminated against due to a protected "class" (such as above - age, religion, gender).

You do not need prior write ups in order to be terminated unless you have a binding employment contract requiring prior write ups before termination.

Sorry - file for unemployment ins. & look for other employment.
