  • what happens now? Texas

I was hired away from one company to work for another with an employment agreement in writing as a transportation manager and in the third week we were inspected by our insurance company and OSHA and the trans department passed both inspections. At the weekly meeting that followed, the owners and senior mgrs thanked me for job well done. I continued to improve the department but on the friday of the fourth week I was called in and told my services were no longer needed due to corp. cut backs.
I have since learned that the company has done this with several other persons in other departments.
What can I do as I left a very good job and that position is no longer available and I also purchased a vehicle (work) at the suggestion of the CEO of the company I went to work for.
Are there any legal ramifications to cover my extensive losses?

Whether or not you have a case for detrimental reliance would have to be discussed with a local attorney versed in employment law. Can't hurt to have a discussion with one.
I don't respond to Private Messages unless the moderator specifically refers you to me for that purpose. Thank you.

I agree - it won't hurt anything to talk to an employment law attorney & see if he/she thinks you might have a case for detrimental reliance. A lot would depend on the amt. of your losses due to relying on the job. These cases are sometimes hard to win - they take the stance that it was your decision to leave one job for another & you take your chances with the other job.

I do see you had an employment agree. in writing (don't know what is in it - it might help to some extent) & that you bought a work vehicle.
