  • what are the legal grounds for firing? Florida

One of my collegues has attandance issues.. I'm never late myself and never miss work. So, my boss asked me to keep a track of my collegue's times.. I asked him if he was going to tell that person that I will be recording his attendance times and the answer was "no". I refused to keep this file behind his back as i find such activity low and immoral. If you want to keep track of times you should introduce the system for clocking in and out. Now I'm getting hints that i need to start looking for another job.. Can i be legally fired for my refusal? What are my rights in this situation if I have any?
    Thank you

Yes, you could be fired for not doing what your boss requests you do. Since Fl. is an at-will state, you can be fired at any time for any reason except illegal reasons - age, sex, religion, among others.
