  • job offers no type of maternity leave in LA

My employer does not offer maternity leave and I do not have insurance with them. I have insurance with my husband's job. I work full time and had planned on taking off for 6 weeks after the baby is born. After that, I will return to work for only 16 hours a week. Is there any that I can file for in Louisiana that would help me out financially? I can't go 6 weeks without being paid.

If your employer does not provide a disability income benefit and you do not carry a disability benefit as part of your personal lines of insurance, then that's it. There is no income replacement benefit available to you through the government for maternity leave.

Beth's right, no income replacement benefits available.

Depending on what your income and assets are like you might qualify for food stamps or other governmental assistance if you are only going to work 16 hrs a week after the baby is born. See this website for information: http://www.dss.state.la.us/index.htm
