  • STD for Surgery in PA Pennsylvania

I'm going to be having gastric bypass surgery on July 26th. I work for a veterinary hospital who only has 9 employees. Are my employers required to offer short term disability and if so, would I qualify?

There are only 5 states which have a state disability requirement or mandate the employer offer it and PA is not one of them. And even if your employer voluntarily did offer it, you would, at this point, have to wait until the open enrollment period to sign up. In addition, such policies do not normally cover pre-existing conditions, except for pregnancy. If you have not purchased a plan individually, you're out of luck for income replacement.

That's the thing about insurance, you have to buy it before you need it.
I don't respond to Private Messages unless the moderator specifically refers you to me for that purpose. Thank you.
