  • Nevada: 19 year old gets Minor in Consumption? Nevada

Hi. Im 19 and live in CA. I recently visited some friends in Reno, Nevada and ended up getting a minor in consumption. My friend who was sober got pulled over while driving. She recieved a speeding ticket and we all got MICs because we had been drinking. I didn't know that you could get in trouble for just drinking. I mean dont they want you to have a designated driver? Im over 18 so im technically not a minor. Does anyone know what will the consequences be for this. On the ticket it says the fines could be up to $770! Isn't that a little extreme for your 1st offense drinking with DD? I have to go back to court in Nevada in month and im wondering if anyone has any advice or knows anything about this. Thanks.

Legal drinking age is not 18 - it is 21. So of course you can get in trouble for "just drinking". "Just drinking" at age 19 is against the law.
The above answer, whatever it is, assumes that no legally binding and enforceable contract or CBA says otherwise. If it does, then the terms of the contract or CBA apply.

Yes, although you are not a "minor" generally, you are a minor when it comes to alcoholic beverages and this is definitely an offense you can be charged with. Interesting laws we have in the U.S. making the drinking age 21...
