we had our 341 meeting yesterday. went pretty smooth considering. we
did a 'voluntary surrender' of one car and traded in the other on
something dependable and affordable so our attorney had to file some
    amendments.

we had our homestead, a recent appraisal of the house, and mortgage
information. the trustee never asked about tax returns or about
anything other the the figures on the documents in front of him. I'm
still glad we had an attorney, would not have done it alone.

the one thing that struck me was the number of elderly people having
hearings on this particular day. please dear God, let me have my
financial house in order by the time I reach their age.

The saddest and most heart wrenching moments in a debtor's bankruptcy
practice IMO are related to senior clients. Typically she (more often
than not, it's an older lady who's still communicative) is in her 70s
forced to seek relief due to medical issues connected with the
institutionalization of her spouse and despite what looks like years
of savings and planning that were just fine but for the medical
    tragedy that precipitated the meltdown.

Our politicians have apparently decided that while indeed it's
essential to spread the cost of medical care out across the entire
paying population, it's also essential to big meaty chunks of
flesh from those who find themselves in need of tapping the public
    largesse. </rant>
