Default Md Minimum Wage

My 18 year old works for a animal kennel. Her pay is still $6.00 hr. We have sent in notes and my daughter has asked about the rate and she is told "that is your rate of pay". Shouldn't her rate have gone to $6.15? And, who can we contact?

There are certain exceptions to the minimum wage law; however, in a quick review I didn't see anything related to animal kennels.

She (not you - you have no standing to get involved in your adult daughter's employment issues) is free to inquire of the MD DOL.

The rate went to $6.15 per hour as of February 16, 2006. From the website www.dllr.state.md.us/labor/minwagefacts.htm

Extracts from and summary of the Labor and Employment Article, Title 3, Subtitle 4
Annotated Code of Maryland
Maryland Minimum Wage
$6.15 per hour
Beginning February 16, 2006

The minimum wage that must be paid to covered employees is $6.15 per hour as of February 16, 2006 at 12:01 AM. With certain exceptions, time and a half the usual hourly rate must be paid for all hours worked in excess of 40 in a workweek.

Certain employees and establishments are exempt from both the minimum wage and overtime provisions. Exemptions include certain agricultural workers; executives, administrative and professional employees; employees of educational, charitable, religious, and other non-profit organizations where the employee is working as a volunteer; employees of restaurants, cafes, drive-ins, taverns, and drug stores which sell food and drink for consumption on the premises where the annual gross income is not more than $250,000; employees of motion picture and drive-in theaters; employees under 16 years of age working not more than 20 hours per week; outside salespersons and individuals compensated on a commission basis; individuals 62 years of age and working not more than 25 hours a week; employees of establishments engaged in canning, packing or freezing or the first processing of seasonal fresh fruits, vegetables, poultry and seafood; the immediate family of the employer; those employees enrolled in a special educational program and non-administrative employees of organized camps

http://www.dllr.state.md.us/labor/wa...wpremedies.htm Is where your daughter can go to find out how to file a claim for the wages owed. Note that she must do this, you can not do it for her.
