Default DOL hates 1099?

Recently at an Alabama Mortgage Brokers Meeting the issue arose of whether Loan Originators could be hired as independent contractors. The pres of AMBA says no 1099 for loan originators or the DOL will come after you. Anyone know why?

Either is fine. But in future, please choose one and post in only one. All the employment law responders read all the forums.
