im employeed in virginia. when i asked my employer for a promotion she followed up by saying that i am still young and i have plenty of time. after that i was asked how old i was by her? would this be considered age discrimination? i took it as i was not qualified because she thought i was too young.

No, it is not. Discrimination because of age is not illegal unless the employee is over 40. You DO have plenty of time.
