Default Unemployment

Just wondering if anyone can advise of whether or not this is grounds for appealing unemployment:

I've been with a company for almost 10 years. I've been a key employee most of those years. I've also always been referred to as a model employee. I notified them that I was pregnant a few years ago and all of the sudden there were alot of reasons for my being demoted. Reasons that had never been addressed before and reasons that were grossly exaggerated. They originally called it preparing for my maternity leave, then somehow I was blindsided with demotion. Now I'm sure proving the discrimination I felt would be impossible especially considering how much time has passed now. But I'm past that now.

For some foolish reason, I returned from maternity leave a year or so ago and have been with the company now this last year. In the middle of my maternity leave there was a merger. And ever since then business has been a nightmare. The key employees from both companies, for lack of better words, hate each other. The bosses simply don't know what to do, so they've made us all get our licenses and work towards being commission based in an attempt to encourage us to work better together and feel what commissions do to a person. I'm ok with that too.

But despite their attempts, the gossip, backstabbing, manipulation, spying, mockery and disdain of all involved is now filtering down to part-time and non-company related people! This fire has fuel and it's raging now! The bosses are having a hard time dealing with it and in group hug meetings the real issues and backstabbing are glossed over. Everyone is fake to each other and noone trusts each other.

So I'm done. I turned in my resignation a week ago and told them I'd work through the end of the month, but I have to get past what has been a nightmare for me since the day I told them I was pregnant, which now has nothing to do with it! (There is a lot I spared you in this story!)

Personally, I'd rather be unemployed than dealing with this. A friend tells me that I have grounds for filing and appealing unemployment. I feel like the decision was still mine to leave.

Any thoughts?

It is next to impossible to get unemployment when you quit. But if you can demonstrate that you were being subjected to illegal discrimination/harassment to the point where no reasonable person would have had any option except to quit, then MAYBE in SOME states you would qualify.

I do not have any information on whether CO is one of those states or not. However, it costs nothing to apply and there is no penalty for being wrong. The worst that can happen is that you are turned down.
