Default Iowa Unemployment

I am going to have an appeal hearing regarding unemployment and needed some advice. I walked off my job after calling my boss, and being instructed to " let someone know your leaving ", After a month and a half of constant stress caused by a fellow co-worker. Other co-workers and myself had brought these issues to our Supervisor on several occasions, but nothing was ever done about it. I then filed umemployment till I could find further work. In the hearing my former boss stated that he was working on resolving the problem, yet was not. My stress level at this job was through the roof, not to mention I work with elderly residents, and thought it unfair to subject them to the stress also. Is there any laws that justify my leaving or will protect me from appling at other places?

Slavery was abolished in this country quite some time ago. You can leave your employer any time you want, and you can apply for other employment any time you want.

But from your subject heading I think you are really asking whether or not this would be considered "good cause to quit" and still receive unemployment benefits. While only an adjudicator in your state can say for certain, nothing in your post suggests that you would be able to reach that extremely high standard.

Default Response

Thank you for responding. I have never applied for unemployment till this, I was just not sure whether I was justified in leaving. Some many told me there are laws that protect us from Hostile workplaces. I guess not. I realize it was not of the harsher natures, however it does cause tension and stress that in itself causes problems. I work with human beings and could not see just leaving, but pushed to far I did. I am greatful for the answers, once again Thank you

What you describe does not meet the definition of a hostile work environment under the law - I think that's the problem. A lot of people misunderstand what is meant by that.
