Default Fired for going to Corporate in IA

I work for a major grocery store in Iowa, and I had trouble with one of the employees. So I emailed the boss, and he didn't respond. Then I emailed Corporate and they forced him to respond. The problem was taken care of to some degree, and then she starts acting childish again.

All they were concerned about was 'how old I was compared to them.'

During the IOWA BIG TEN tourney, I worked an extra shift on Friday night and barely got home for the finish of the game. During the season, one of the employees informed me that we could listen to the games over the intercom. They had the game on Friday night, and then the girl I was having troubles with turned it off.

So I emailed my boss, and told him I thought it was childish. All the others called in sick.

On Sunday, I didn't call in sick and asked them to put the game on the radio. They told me the radio was broke. One of the Customers decided since he couldn't use his coupon he didn't want the milk, and left. So I went to put the milk back and I heard them downstairs listening to the game, on the 'broke radio.' While I was backed up upfront, and they were on Company time.

Needless to say, I didn't get to see or hear the game, but the point being they lied to me, and were listening on company time.

So I emailed my boss in disgust. He responded by saying, 'it may be in the best interest of both of us for you to go to another store. I will give you a recommendation.'

Today he emailed (a day later) and told me he had my shifts covered this week, he would mail my final check, and not to come back in the store. 'That I was wrong for emailing Corporate and complaining.'

I have a RIGHT to compain about anything, especially when it is wrong that they lied to me and it was on Company time, and they are totally ignoring that.

Did he retaliate, and did he wrongfully fire me?

I am waiting for a response from an employment attorney, but most people say, 'yes, it was retaliation.' He told me never to go to Corporate again.

Please advise. Thanks

Thanks.

I understand, but again, I am a little upset! Put yourself in my shoes after you have given a company 4 years of your dedication and loyalty. The President and CEO are looking into the situation. I still have an attorney for the wrongdoing. Thanks!

Put yourself in ours, then. We put literally hours of our own time into answering these questions, for no pay. No one ever uses the search feature so we answer the same questions over and over and over. When ANYONE posts twice, we point it out as a duplicate - you weren't singled out. We put enough of our own time into this; do we have to answer the same question, by the same person twice too? Or are we allowed to mark it as a duplicate without being screamed at?

Default Doubt It

They can fire you for whatever they want.

If you complain about a discriminatory action in regards to age, disability, sex, race, etc., and were fired, you may be able to claim retaliation. But in order to prove retaliation you have to show that you were discriminated against, under a "protected activity" which you weren't.

To see what qualifies as a discriminatory practice, read EEOC Title VII. That should explain it better.

This thread is from two years ago. No need to resurrect it now.

And double posts are still not allowed. Like it or not.
