Question Colorado Non-Compete Contract

Hi,

I'm new to the forum.

My friend's husband just signed a non-compete contract with his employer, a drafting company. The contract says he cannot work in the drafting industry for five years after leaving the company. Is this reasonable by law in Colorado? I agree he was stupid to sign the thing without consulting an attorney, but is there anything he can do?

Thanks,
HBass

Personally no, I don't think it's reasonable. But my opinion and a dollar will get you a cup of coffee. Only an attorney in your state will be able to tell him whether or not this is enforceable.

Cool

Courts usually frown on non-compete agreements, because it may limit the ability for a person to make a living.

Elizabeth, that may be true in your region, but it is not necessarily true across the board. A great deal depends on the terms of the agreement.
