I am looking for some help regarding what the law states about tips that are being deducted from my payroll. I work as a bartender and when claiming my tips I notice on my paycheck that the employer is deducting the full amount from my hourly rate. For example my total earnings for a pay period were 379.75, FICA was deducted totaling 17.34, Medicare-4.04, tips-100.00, total deductions, 121.38 which left the net pay at 258.37. Is this legal? How do I claim my tips on my taxes? On my W-2 they list the tips under Social Security tips. I am a little confused about the way they do things at my place of business, it just doesn't seem right to me. If anybody has some information it would be greatly appreciated

duplicate post. All the contributors here read all the forums, so you only have to post your question in one place. I answered it about 30 minutes ago.
