Default Utah overtime

To all , Hello I am a new member here and have read a few posts , you all seem quite knowledgable pertaining to labor law , and was hoping you could clear this one up for me.
Last year my son 14 got into trouble , he is now serving time in a boys home for a minor sex offence , he touched a girls breast on a dare from friends, this has led to major headaches for me and my wife , just prior to this our company Detroit Diesel went to a 4 / 10 work schedual , my supervisor knows of the situation , many of the legal agencies have schedualed me and our buisness to be on the fridays we are supposed to be off work , my question is this : can my employer fire me or hold this against me that I am unable to work their mandatory o/t . I feel that they should respect what has happened , when it happened , and allow me to take care of personal buisness on the only day available to me...friday's . Please advise . This is in the state of Utah .
Thank you in advance for any help.

I don't mean to sound harsh here, but your son's legal issues are not your employer's problem. Would it be nice if they were more understanding? Sure. Are they violating any laws by requiring overtime and writing you up if you cannot/will not work it? No, they aren't.
