Default Overtime

Can an employer force you to work overtime? And if you elect not to work overtime can that be legally held against you in Maryland.

Yes, you can be required to work overtime in Maryland (and all the other 49 states, too). There are a few industry specific exceptions where public safety is involved (airline pilots, truck drivers, in some states nursing) but for the most part mandatory overtime is legal in all 50 states.

Yes, if you refuse overtime you can be disciplined or even fired.
