I had given my 2 week notice on February 1, 2006. After giving my notice, I went home for the day and was called at home by co-workers stating that the HR deptarment, plant manager, and my boss-controller were in meeting discussing my written notice. The Hr assistant blurted out "fire her *** now".
Co workers had over hear the conversation and called me. The next day, I confronted my boss and she said that nothing like that was said. I was then told by person on the management staff that they were all pulled into a meeting trying to find out who called me at home (5 people actually called me) to tell me what was said. The plant manager stated that what was said was confidential information and should have never left the building, but it was said loud enough for everyone to hear. So, in the mean time, the HR assistant who made the comment (she also did this while I was on maternity leave) gave her apologizes to the management staff because she didn't mean for them to be called into a meeting like that. Is this considered any type of verbal harassment? I was also told that I have to train my boss while I continue to work my last weeks, but she will not sit with me to learn my job. Any thoughts? No, this is not any kind of actionable harassment.
There is nothing illegal about asking you to train your boss, or someone, in your job, and how to get her to sit down with you is not something that the law deals with. If she absolutely refuses to spend any time with you, you might simply write up an explanatory sheet...i.e., every Thursday you need to balance the time cards; here are the steps...and give it to her. Tell her that if she has any questions, she needs to bring them to you before your last day. |

My harassment question was the HR assisant shouting out "fire her ***" this has happened on more than one occasion and doesnt' sound very professional coming from the HR dept.

It may not be professional, but it still does not meet the legal definition of any kind of harassment.
