If a person is paid twice a month, how many hours is considered overtime?
I had 97 hours in my pay period and only received straight time no overtime. Could this be right? |

The pay period is irrelevant. The employer has to establish a fixed 7-consecutive day period known as the "workweek". Generally speaking, overtime is due, by federal law, if over 40 hours is worked by nonexempt employees during the workweek. Are you paid a salary or are you paid hourly (I'm assuming you are nonexempt)?

If you are paid hourly, it's about 97.5% certain that you are non-exempt. Only a very, very few professional positions (doctors, lawyers, some teachers, some computer professionals) are exempt but paid hourly.

My employer is taking money out of my paycheck because they say that my paperwork shows my drawer was short. However, I do the paperwork and the deposits and all of my paperwork matches up with the deposits, but they took 23.00 out of my paycheck. I want to know if they can take money out of my paychecks for that.

Probably not. You can inquire of your state DOL and if they say no, which is what I suspect, they are the ones you would file a complaint with.

In the phone book under State of Arizona. I don't have a website handy.
