i recently began working for an contracting company and upon recieving my first check i noticed a "processing fee" of 5 dollars in the adjustments section of my check stub..when i questioned what it was i was told that all their employees pay a 40 dollar annual fee which is taken in 5 dollar increments for 8 checks..so i said basically im paying u all to cut my check..she replied yes it for all the supplies we use paper. ink. etc.. lastly i never signed any paperwork agreeing to this..is this legal?

Wouldn't make any difference whether you signed anything or not. An employer cannot charge you to receive your pay. Producing paychecks is a cost of doing business. Sheesh.
You can file a complaint for unauthorized deductions with the state Dept. of Labor. And so should every other employee. http://www.michigan.gov/cis/0,1607,7...1944--,00.html Last edited by Pattymd; 01-22-2006 at 06:38 AM. |
