Question mechanic worked on my 18 wheeler now wants to sell my truck for his money

My name is Angela Cline. I live in Rockwell, North Carolina. My husband and I own a Kenworth Tractor (18 wheeler) and we sent it to a mechanic to have the motor rebuilt. On December 15, 2005 the man had finished our truck. We informed the man that we were working to get the money and we would keep in touch with him. The man, who owns his own mechanics bussiness, said that would be alright. My husband and I were under the impression that there is a mechanics law in our state that says we have 120 days to pay a mechanics bill before the mechanic and/or garage can put a lien on our title and sell our truck for labor, parts and storage. To my suprise, I recieved a letter in the mail today from the mechanic tellin gme that I now have 10 days to handle this or my truck will be sold. Today is January 19, 2006. That's not quite 120 days! The mechanic has also put a lien on our title. Is the law on our favor or were we misinformed? Please help me with is!!!

These forums are for labor and employment law. You need a consumer law forum. Sorry we can't help.
