Default travel time

My employer in AZ has stated that we (construction workers) will only be paid to travel from the office (where we must go to pick up a company truck) to the job site. We will not be paid to travel from the job site back to the office to get our personal cars to go home (ex. 6:00 am leave office, arrive at job site & work, 2:30 pm clock out, travel back to office unpaid). When the question of whether this was legal or not was raised, the general consenus of most of the workers is that the driver has to be paid but not the passengers. Some one also said that travel time can be at a lower wage rate then our regular rate. We all like working for this company, but we want what is fair.

Didn't I answer this elsewhere? Sounds familiar.
