Default Right to personnel file in NJ

Does NJ State law give employees the right to see and have a copy of their personnel file? Any clues appreciated. Thank you.

Generally, no.

Unless you are employed by a public entity, there is no right of access to your personnel file in NJ.

One exception, if the employer has a stated policy (ie in the handbook) granting a right ot see your file.

Often times CBAs will contain language that requires the employer to provide reasonable access to one's personnel file. You should consult the union or at the very least review your CBA.
