Default fmla and the post office in az

I have had approved fmla for three years for my son who has several chronic conditions. It took me going to my congressman who took it to DC and got an approval and it still wasn't good enough for the post office. Once my congressman took it to the fmla office in PHX it was magically approved and I hadn't had any problems since until now. My papers were filled out exactly the same as the past three years and I got them back requesting info that I can not possibly give. They want to know how many episodes my son will have each month and how many days I will be off. They also want exact dates. HELLO! Like I could possibly predict just when my son's condition will flare up. They also told me that the fmla law says I have to write a statement saying he is my son. Again, hello! If it has been approved the last three years obviously he is my son. In this letter I also have to put what care I will be giving him. My son's doctor put that info on the forms so why is it neccessary for me to do so and when did this become part of the fmla law. The post office is constantly harassing people about their fmla to the point that most just give up and suffer. I can't. I'm all my son has. Please help me with any info you can. Thank you all, cheryl

Sounds like you need to file a complaint of FMLA violation with the US DOL.

Thumbs up Fmla

I spoke to DOL today for over 30 mim because they were doing the same thing to my co workers and myself. It seems the Po is 110% wrong. Once you submit FMLA documentation if there is a question they are forwarded to the medical officer/unit in charge and they must ask the employees permission to contact their dr to clarify whatever the problem is. They cannot ask for any more info than what is on that form. That is against the law. Contact your DOL office and ask for the FMLA section. Explain to them what is going on. They instructed us to get all papers the supervisor gave us asking for more info etc and send to them with other info they needed. I am also a chief shop steward and I am filing a class grievance along with the formal complaint. Then I have advised the employees who were awol'd and lost money they can legally sue the supervisor who didnt follow the law in regards to the FMLA. If any questions feel free to email me and I will try to help as best as I can. I am not an expert just been talking with the DOL a lot lately..lol

perhaps you didn't notice that this thread is from July of last year? I doubt if the poster is coming back to look for additional responses by now.
