Question Don't Want To Go In

I recently just quit my job that I was only at for a few months. They were really hard-up for workers and I basically didn't give them any notice that I was quitting. They broke many laws due to the fact that they had very few employees for such a large company. I was a cashier. I want my last paycheck but I don't want to contact anyone from the store or to go in, how can I get it? I am in New Jersey and my last day was 11/28. The check that I was supposed to recieve was on 12/02. I haven't gotten it and I wanted to know if they HAVE to mail it by a certain point by law? Thanks for any info in advance.

New Jersey law requires that you receive your paycheck for your final pay period of work on the regularly scheduled pay day for that pay period. You can file a claim with the state Dept. of Labor. However, getting that claim addressed any time soon is probably very unlikely. And, when you file, one of the first things they are probably going to ask you is have you contacted the employer about this paycheck and what did they say? Did you request that they mail it? Maybe they're waiting for you to contact them to let them know how you plan on getting the check.

If you're reluctant about contacting them, consider it a lesson learned; don't burn bridges unless you're POSITIVE you never want to cross them again.

Default what's to be afraid of?

Certainly a phone call won't hurt you? They may complain and harrangue you, but you can always hang up. And then you can tell the State DOL that you called and all they did was yell at you. Until then, you probably look like a schmuck to the the DOL. its your money, why aren't you marching right in there, or calling 3x a day, to get that money?

Do you feel guilty about quitting on short notice? why? employers almost alway fire on "short notice", so why do you feel any obligation the other way around? Now if you want a future reference, that's a different story. But as far as trading your labor for their money, you shouldn't feel bad about just simply quitting, it is your body and your labor.

Of course, maybe you feel bad since it is a family thing? or perhaps a friend or family member got you the job? who knows, but if its one of those things, yeah, perhaps you should have thought about that bridge before you burnt it.
