Default Questions about Pa labor laws....

Ok I hope I'm doing this right (or saying it right anyways) My sister works for a company that was recently bought out. Ok So the new company comes in and gives them all a pay CUT. LIke $1.50 hour less. Then they took away some of the medical benifets (I can't spell to save my life so bear with me) and charged more for them. They got rid of the fact that in the 10 years she has worked there she has worked herself up too 3 weeks paid vacation and gave her 4 days instead! And sick leave is 2 days a year. Now they are telling them they are going to work 11 hour shifts and the only day off will be Sunday because the business is closed that day! They removed the chairs in the main area because it looked bad when customers came in to have the employees sitting down. And lunch is 30 minutes (unpaid) with no breaks in between.

Is this legal???

Everything is legal.

1. The law does not require that they put out benefits for their employees.

2. They may restructure benefits to the needs of the company.

3. 11 hour shifts and only one day off is legal. There are no requirements for shifts or days off.

4. Federal law requires that breaks under 30 minutes be paid. Since the breaks are 30 minutes or over, they are not required to pay employees for this.

One correction, federal law is 20 minutes, not 30. http://www.dol.gov/dol/allcfr/ESA/Ti...9CFR785.18.htm

Ugh I could've sworn it was 30. Are they changing stuff on me?

Nope, it's always been 20 at the Federal level. There are a couple of state that use 30 as a standard, though.
