    Default accepting paycut question

Hi - I'm employed by a company in Mass. that was just bought last week by a company in FL.

Most folks are being/have been laid off, I've been told that I'm part of the 'go-forward team' but have to have a discussion with the CFO about the new terms of my employment. Word on the street is that they are forcing folks to accept a paycut.

How much notice do they have to give before the paycut goes into effect? Also, can they make me sign an agreement at this meeting saying I will accept or be terminated? I'm not sure if I have the legal right to say 'I'd like to think this over' or if they can just terminate me on the spot if I don't sign.

    Any help would be appreciated

    Thanks in advance,

    Nicole

How much notice do they have to give before the paycut goes into effect? In some States, none. In others, they only need to inform you prior to your working any hours at the reduced rate.

Also, can they make me sign an agreement at this meeting saying I will accept or be terminated? They can't force you to sign anything. They certainly can terminate you if you refuse to continue working for them at a reduced rate of pay. (In actuality, you will have resigned - they'll have made an offer, you refused it.)
