Mandatory Training in NJ

Can a private employer in NJ have mandatory off site training and make the employee pay for it and fire them if they refuse.

There isn't any law of which I am aware which prohibits it. Having said that, however, it would be a really stupid thing to do.

Can you give us a few more details? What do you do, what training is involved, how much $, will they reimburse you at a later date? etc.

My wife is a licensed and certified massage therapist and the salon where she works is mandating training which she has to pay for including travel, hotel, etc. Therre is no reimbursement. This can't be legal.

Unfortunately, however, my answer has not changed. It is patently unfair, in my opinion. Employment law is based on either 1) there is a law prohibiting the employer from doing something or 2) there is a law requiring the employer to do something. When the law is silent on an issue, then it is strictly up to the employer.
