A verbal promise is about worth the paper it is written on. The terms of bonus plans are dictated by the employer and it is not unusual for plans to require the employee be employed on the date the bonus is paid. The Dept. of Labor is charged with enforcing minimum wage, overtime, etc. laws and does not get involved with "side agreements".

There's really nothing the federal or state DOL can do regarding a promised bonus. If you want to try filing a civil suit, possibly in small claims court, that's up to you, but I would not be optimistic. Why were you terminated?
