Default Compensation for salaried employee

As a salaried retail employee in PA, my manager insists we work 60 hours plus a week with no compensation. Is this legal? He works 40-45!

If you are on salary it is legal. You really have no complaint as long as everyone is being treated the same.Forget about what he's working. The only thing you have to decide is weather or not it is worth it to you.

Salaried is only a pay method. What matters is whether you are exempt or non-exempt.

Both exempt and non-exempt employees must work the hours the employer says. If you are told you have to work 60 hours a week, then you have to work 60 hours a week. Period. How many hours your manager works is immaterial.

If you are exempt, then there are no circumstances whatsoever in which you have to be paid a single penny over and above your regular salary, no matter how many hours you work.

If you are non-exempt, you must be paid at the rate of time and a half for all hours over 40 in a week.

But either way, you have to work the hours you are told to work.

Thank you for the responses. I do realize it is immaterial how many hours my manager works, it was more about his unfairness.
