I worked for a small company where I was required to use my vehicle to drive from job to job (as a service technician). This was ok until the company grew and it turned into several thousand miles a month! After complaining that it was costing me too much to work there (especially with gas prices as they are) and stating I needed to be compensated for my vehicle use, he decided on $50 a week for gas. This was of course not coming close to covering the expense (usually $15-20 a day, 5 days a week), but he said he felt that it was "fair".
Is there a law that requires he pay a minimum amount per mile to cover gas and wear and tear on a vehicle? If so, where do I report this abuse? I have quit, but there are still two younger guys working there who get NOTHING for their vehicle use because they are afraid to speak up. Any advice would be appreciated! |
