My son works as a teller for one of the larger payday loan/check cashing companies in the region. 1- If, for whatever reason, his drawer comes up short over the course of the day that amount is deducted from his pay. 2- Each store's employees are required to take home, or elsewhere to be done, the company's cleaning towels to be laundered, at employee's expense and without compensation for the time spent. Are these practices legal? |

1. Only if the employee specifically authorizes the deduction in writing.
http://www.laborcommissioner.com/faqs.htm 2. No, not without compensation. He can file a claim with the state Dept. of Labor. The page above also has instructions about filing claims. |
