We have an employee who, as part of his salary arrangement, will work Monday to Friday 8 hrs day and a half day on Saturday. We have a sick/personal day and vacation policy that allows half days. If he does not come in on Saturday can we deduct a half day for that day. This is in the state of New Jersey.

Why would you want to do that? Is his schedule such that you are requiring him to work a full day on Saturday on a regular basis, and he is only working half the day?

Then, he's not missing any work on Saturday by working half a day, is he?
Then why would you charge him for PTO for the other half when he is not required to work the other half? I don't see the logic. |

I think the poster is talking about if he fails to work the half day he is scheduled for.
If I am correct about that, yes, you can charge him PTO for failing to work scheduled time, regardless of what day of the week it is. |

Thanks! I was talking about if he fails to work the half day scheduled for Saturday. Sorry for the confusion. |
