what exactly does this term mean? (salired-non exempt)I get paid for 40 hrs a week if i work or not I get paid time1/2 for hours worked over 40 hrs. But if i miss work for any reason i have to make it up on the week end or loose a vacation day. Also one of the workers missed a day last week he is a 2nd shift worker (3pm-100am) they made him come in on the day shift saturday morning @6am to make up his day or face displinary actions (he had only 5 hrs off) can they do this?

Yes. Non-exempt is a legal term that means you must receive overtime pay for all hours worked over 40. Salaried is the pay method your employer has chosen - you received a fixed weekly salary, plus overtime as applicable.
You and you salaried non-exempt co-workers can be required to make up any absence time without any additional compensation or OT pay as long as it is done within the same payroll week. If you are asent on a Friday (for example) and work on Saturday to make up the time, that's fine. But if you're absent on Friday and work 8 extra hours the following week to make up the time, you must be paid OT if it results in your working more than 40 hours in the second week. |

Beth is right, and what your employer is doing is exactly the definition of how you pay salaried, nonexempt employees.
