I am a teacher that has worked in an AZ district for over 11 years. I have accumulated a number of days of sick leave during that time. I am now leaving at the end of this year and have been told I will just lose all that time. If this is time that I "earned" how can I lose the value of those days. Is this true? Should I be entitled to any part of this time? I am not being dismissed, I am choosing to leave the profession. Thanks for the hlep. Nancy

No Federal law and no law in Arizona requires that the employer pay unused sick dates on termination, regardless of whether the termination is voluntary or involuntary. If your employer chooses to pay out some or all of the time, fine, but they are under no legal obligation to do so.

Thanks, not quite the answer that I was hoping for, but nice to know. Nancy
