Default Another 2 weeks notice question.

I have searched for "2 weeks notice" and everything was very helpful. However, I have specific questions. I gave my 3 week notice (writtien notice) this past week. It was accepted with one verbal modification initiated by my Directory of Sales- He wanted me to work 2 weeks. I agreed. It was announced to all deparments that I would be leaving two weeks. It has been this company's practice to immediately let people go when a notice is given. After I asked some specific question on Stock and final payment, I was told that yesterday would be my last day.
Do I have any recourse for getting paid the balance of the two weeks ?
I go in on Monday to "sign papers" which I was told that I would not be paid for that day. Is the verbal agreement some kind of contract? (This is Tennessee). Any help appreciated.
