I am needing help. Does an employer have to pay it's employees for training sessions that are considered Manditory? The training courses are not held during normal business hours and they will not pay the employees.
The flier that was posted clearly states that any employee who does not complete each of the 7 training sessions will be removed from patrol until classes have been completed. They are not a police department, they are a private security company that tries to run like a police department located in Kanas City Missouri. They also made a comment that these classes normally cost $300 and they will be provided at no cost to the employee. Does this keep them from having to pay the employees the hours they attend these classes or are they still liable? Please help. Last edited by security buff; 10-14-2005 at 06:31 PM. |

Are the employees exempt or non-exempt?

Everyone is non-exempt, except for the 3 in upper management.

Non-exempt employees must be paid for the time spent in mandatory training; exempt employees need not. Those who should have been paid and were not can file a claim for unpaid wages with the state Dept. of Labor.
