breaks?

i work in ohio. is my employer required to give us breaks? if so, how often? I work in a restaurant.

No law in Ohio requires rest breaks or meal periods for employees 18 years of age and older.

So, as a 12 hour a day factory worker, my employer is not required to give us breaks? I work 6am to 6pm in a hot, nasty environment, we get a total of 30 minutes of break time all day. We are allowed to break it up as we want, most people take 3, 10 minute breaks. It is not enough. Please tell me there is something we as employees can do! Thanks

That's what I'm saying. The Ohio legislature has not seen fit to requires meal breaks or rest breaks. If you want to pursue this, contact your state legislator.

Hopefully, they are being paid for those breaks, as required by law. Under Federal law, any break of less than 20 minutes must be paid.

Great minds. I thought of mentioning that, then didn't because that was not the question asked. But, it is something the OP needs to know, probably.

I wouldn't have mentioned it, but the OP said they get 30 minutes a day, but most take that time in ten minute increments and not all at once.

Dollars to donuts, the 10 minute breaks are unpaid, even though they should be.

Of course, when someone complains and the company is forced to pay up, the policy will change and there will be ONE break of 30 minutes, unpaid.
