Default Calling Off an Employee

I work at a golf course in San Diego. Today we did not have many golfer's, so our food and beverage manager decided it was not necessary to have a beverage cart girl. She was scheduled to come into work at 8:00 am, and he called her off at 7:45 am. The girl lives 30 minutes away and was already on her way to work. Do we have to pay her still? What are the laws for this type off situation?

Default Reporting Time Pay

Under California statute, an employee who comes in to work, only to be sent home for 1/2 or more of his/her scheduled shift, that person must be paid at least 2 hours of pay, not to exceed 4 hours.

In the situation you describe, the beverage cart person should be paid 2 hours of pay.

Default The real story

Obviously you have the hots for the beverage cart girl. Don't complain to the manager he will probably fire her for asking. Tell her everytime that happens it is the law that someone has to take her to dinner. While on your date show her the menu and point out the expensive "we are sleeping together section". It makes them laugh and it usually costs you the steak and lobster but the sex is great. If they get mad they are not the right girl and now your boss has a sexual harrasment suit to worry about. Oh well life is full of risks.
