You can't imagine how confusing it was for a good UK/CDN boy to end up in Kentucky where we have... towns named after international cities: London, Dublin, Paris, Berlin, Ottawa, Melbourne, Victoria, Alexandria, Carthage, Rome, Florence, Stockholm, Warsaw, Cairo, Moscow, Geneva, Nazareth, Jericho, Normandy, Troy, and Versailles; towns named after world countries: Cuba, Canada, Wales, Brazil, Egypt, Korea, and Panama; towns named after cities in the UK: Glasgow, Aberdeen, Halifax, Hamilton, Kensington, Kingston, Waterloo, Chatham, Windsor, Manchester, York, Bath, Birmingham, Dover, Wellington, Cork, Midland, Sutton, Whetstone, Bedford, and Shetland; towns with silly names: Fox Chase, Friendship, Climax, Number One, Tyewhoppety, Butcher Hollow, Possum Trot, Hills and Dales, Catnip, Beetle, Bugtussle, Gum Tree, Gum Sulphur, Swan Lake, Dog Walk, and Rabbit Town; and even more towns with silly names: Deer Lick, Mays Lick, Log Lick, Knob Lick, Mud Lick, Sulphur Lick, Grassy Lick, Wolf Lick, Sand Lick, Bank Lick, Slate Lick, Blue Lick, and Salt Lick… and, of course, my all time favorite town name: Gap in Knob.
