60hrs before OT can not find an exemption
I worked at wiley sanders truck lines inc. for a little over 2 years. I have never once recieved overtime after 40hrs. I can not find an exemption for overtime that would have covered me. They paid OT after 60hrs but not forty. They claim its an alabama state law that lets them get away with it. My duties were to hook big trucks to their assigned trailers I did not leave the yard so exemptions for drivers does not apply. They said that since we directly touched a "Tractor" or big truck that they didn't have to pay us OT until after 60hrs. There are quit a few people who work at this company that do not drive big trucks off the yard but no one is paid OT until after 60 except for the custodians. I was just wondering if anyone could help me out with this I can't find anything about it and if it can be stopped it needs to be. They work people until their at the end of their limits and then try to push them past them. I regularly worked 50 to 55 hours a week and very rarely got more than 60 maybe 4 or 5 times in a 2 year period. Every time I would make more than 60 hours I would have to talk to my foreman and get chewed out about the OT, like it was coming out of his pocket. I just recently quit I finally got fed up with the harrasment to work extra shifts and still be there for my regular shift. I just want to find out the laws they were using to get away with this, and if anyone is due any back pay who has worked or is working at this company.
