what are they looking for during background check?

i'm curious to know what they actually look for during background check
because we provice police certificates and fbi or whatever fingerprint
check etc.

what is the procedure?

i mean how do they go about, doing
the background check. can anyone explain it in simple language?

There are several different checks. Criminal check deals with verifying if
person has any criminal record and it is basically covered by police
certificates. Background check mainly verifies education and experience
credentials.

Then there is background/security check which is conducted completely
outside of and independently from Canadian immigration by Canadian
intelligence and security agencies, with and/or without cooperation of
proper authorities in all countries applicant resided since age 18 (for some
nationals since age 16). It looks into applicant's background, activities,
associations, etc. to determine if person was and/or is involved in any
espionage, terrorism, organized crime, radical groups, crimes against
humanity, etc. - how it is done and what is found is classified and CIC only
receives "positive" or "negative" decision.

Simple enough?

Hi Andrew,

As you told the CIC check for credentials in Background
check. But those who apply with CSQ, they just include their copies of
birth certificate and passport but do not include anything regarding
their wokexperience , education or other papers. Moreover the the PR
appilication form does not contain enough information about applicant's
job experience isuues.

Then for Quebec skill workers, how CIC do
background check for credentials ? Or it is done by the immigration
Quebec before issuing CSQ.

include cheks on work experience etc?


im asking this because, i may
have to call my previous employers and alert them that they might calls
from canada immigration (only because its been in some cases more than 2
years since i was last employed there and i dont expect them to remember
my name, job profile etc.)
also i changed from H1 to F1, and intimated
them about it immediately sending copies of my f1 visa. but later i
received a letter asking me to send along with other final documents, my
current work experience letter. i however send them a mail back
explaining that i dont work anywhere as its against us rules to do so in
F1 and also mentioned that i sent a copy of my F1 visa/120 a few months
earlier for their reference.

so, given these, am i expecting them to
call my previous employers?

I do not know about the truth of all this.

Far as I know, Quebec Skilled Workers are still required to attach copies of
work experience, educatione etc. and fill out Schedule-5 instead of the usual
one to prove intent to reside in non-quebec Canada ...

No, Immigration Quebec does not perform background checks, AFAIK.

Interview waiver if granted usually happens before any background checks
start - so, expect background, verification and background/security checks
to be underway for quite some time after waiver.

They will check your criminal history - this may be done through a third party company or the police.

They may do a credit check - although in some places its illegal to use that in consideration for hiring.

They will do a reference check - calling your former or current bosses, or any people you list as a character reference.

In more recent times social media checks are becoming more common. this involves searching for what you do on Facebook, Twitter, etc. This has caused a lot of controversy.
