I recently had a death in my family ( an aunt that raised me). According to my employer im not intitled to bereavement pay beacsue its not an immediate family member.FINE!! I have asked to take sick days for the time that i have missed and my employer is stalling stating that he doesnt think that its possible. I live and work in Maryland

Even if it were a family member, your employer is not required to provide bereavement time. Bereavement time is entirely optional on the part of the employer and they may decide what family members are eligible.
It is up to the employer if he wishes to allow you to take sick time for this or not. |
