Default Question - Talking about Co-workers

The company that I work for has a Four Step Process and a friend of mine was written up for talking negatively about our boss, another employee told the boss and he wrote her up for "venting." Is it possible to get fired for talking negatively about another person, ex. Boss, Co-worker, or the Company in general.

The incident took place in our office. I don't know if that matters.

Thanks in advance
